“I had to put food on the table.”
“It’s just business.”
“I’ve got to take care of my family.”
I’ve heard these words far too many times from fellow Christian business owners… right after they’ve made a decision that compromised their integrity.
And I get it. The pressure’s real. Payroll’s coming. A big deal is on the line. The bills are mounting. But here’s what I’ve realized:
We trust God with our eternity, but often not with our next invoice.
We preach faith on Sunday but practice fear on Monday.
When Faith Meets Pressure
Here’s what I’ve seen play out in real time:
- Christian leaders fudge numbers to land a job.
- They justify cheating a little here or padding a bid there.
- They ghost commitments, break promises, and then say, “God knows my heart.”
And the wild part? They’re not evil. They’re not malicious. They’re just scared–and they’ve bought into the lie that compromise is the only way to survive.
But that’s not trust. That’s control. That’s fear wearing a mask of “wisdom.”
Integrity Isn’t Convenient–It’s Convicting
Let’s be honest. Doing the right thing gets expensive sometimes.
Choosing integrity might mean losing a job. It might mean walking away from a dishonest opportunity. It might mean telling the truth that costs you a client.
But integrity doesn’t count until it costs you something. Anyone can be ethical when it’s easy. The question is:
Will you still do what’s right when it’s risky?
If not, we’ve got to ask ourselves: Do we really believe God is our provider? Or just our backup plan when business is booming?
The Altar of Trust
What if that next hard decision isn’t just a trial, but a test? What if it’s your opportunity to say, “I trust You, God. Right now. In this.”
Stop saying, “I had no choice.” Start saying, “I had a chance to trust God. And I took it.”
God doesn’t bless disobedience. He honors faithfulness, especially the kind that hurts in the short term but honors Him in the long run.
Four Things Every Christian Leader Must Do
Here’s how to prepare for those high-pressure moments before they hit:
1. Draw a Line in the Sand
List out your non-negotiables. Write them down. Declare them. These are the things you won’t compromise–ever.
2. Make Pre-Decisions
Don’t leave integrity to impulse. Decide now what you’ll do when faced with a tough choice.
3. Ask Better Questions
Instead of, “How do I protect myself?” Ask, “What does faithfulness look like here?”
4. Trust God With the Outcome
Do what’s right. Let Him handle the results.
Let’s Get Real
If you’re a Christian business owner, you don’t just carry the weight of revenue–you carry the reputation of the Kingdom. People are watching. And more importantly, God is watching.
So here’s the challenge:
Live and lead like you actually believe God is your provider. Even when you can’t see how it’ll work out. Even when it costs you.
